HURRICANES SETTLING DOWN WITH MOVEMENTS AS TEAM BEGINS TRANSFORMATION;
BATES TRADED
The Hurricanes announced to day that the lone TFHL Cup Champion left
from TFHL12 in a trade that sends centre Shawn Bates to the
Misconducts. "Well, you had to know this stuff was coming." said
Bates after hearing the news of the trade. "The team is dead last in
the league after being considered a contender for 5 or 6 seasons in a
row. I think the last time the Hurricanes franchise missed the
playoffs was about 11 or 12 seasons ago."
The team has gone through a complete shake up in the last few days.
Gone are Wade Redden, Roman Hamrlik and Bates all via trade. In comes
Boyd Gordon and Ty Wishart and a whole lot of salary cap room.
The Hurricanes also announced that Ryan Flynn and Cory Schneider were
assigned to the farm team. Coming the other way is Brian Leetch
making his return to Calgary while goaltender Jeremy Smith and forward
Brandon Sutter will both make their debut against the Rednexs on
Thursday.
For now things are cooling off but are there more changes in the near
future for the 'Canes? "You never know." said GM Major.
